Douglas Bruce Endorses Ali Hasan
Posted in Press on March, 23, 2010
DENVER – Ali Hasan, candidate for Colorado State Treasurer, is proud to announce the endorsement from former State Representative Douglas Bruce of Colorado Springs. Rep. Bruce is best known as the author of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights and leading advocate for true conservative fiscal policy.
In Representative Bruce’s endorsement letter he says, “Ali Hasan is truly a fiscal conservative. His campaign has shown he appreciates the first duty of a state treasurer – to invest the state’s money safely and wisely… Colorado tax dollars must never be used to support financial irresponsibility by East Coast banks. Like all conservatives, he opposes federal bailouts and the TARP travesty.” Full text from the letter is below.
In response to the endorsement, Ali Hasan said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to have the support of the man who wrote the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, as well as someone who I consider to be one of my greatest political mentors. One of my goals as State Treasurer will be to strengthen the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights and Representative Bruce’s endorsement highlights my sincerity towards this goal. I am proud that Representative Bruce highlights an expanding list of conservative leaders from across the State, who are joining together to support our campaign, because they believe that our State Treasury should invest in Colorado Winners, not Washington Losers.”
Other community leaders endorsing Hasan for State Treasurer include;
- Colorado Minority Leader Mike May

FROM THE DESK OF
DOUGLAS BRUCEI endorse Ali Hasan to be our Republican nominee for Colorado state treasurer.
As the author of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, and a former county commissioner and state legislator, I know how important it is that we carefully choose elected officials who understand and support TABOR. Ali Hasan does.
Ali Hasan is truly a fiscal conservative. His campaign has shown he appreciates the first duty of a state treasurer—to invest the state’s money safely and wisely. Ali Hasan agrees that our Colorado tax dollars must never be used to support financial irresponsibility by East Coast banks. Like all conservatives, he opposes federal bailouts and the TARP travesty.
The incumbent treasurer is a long-time TABOR hater. What can you expect of a liberal, and with a name like Kennedy? She is the author of Amendment 23, one of the dumbest ideas in recent state history. She rode that foolish fad to elected office. Amendment 23 imposes rigid state budget rules which are now causing our state financial problems. Her boondoggle puts union pay raises and government spending increases on auto-pilot. #23 prevents legislators from setting budget priorities. #23 cannot adapt to recent economic downturns. #23 lacks the TABOR flexibility of voter-approved changes. In 2008, Cary Kennedy publicly backed another liberal scheme, Amendment 59, written to replace #23. So even she admits her bailout plan was fiscal folly and should be repealed!
In the 1920s, a pop phrase became a fad—“23 skidoo.” It meant “to leave quickly.” In this election, let us say to Cary Kennedy’s constitutional con job, “23 skidoo.”
Ali Hasan can articulately and effectively defend TABOR and taxpayers against leftover liberals. We also need Ali Hasan in the treasurer’s office to monitor financial decisions at the state Capitol, and to speak out for TABOR when it is threatened by ongoing and proposed violations. Ali Hasan will honor his oath of office to support our state Constitution—ALL of it—and serve as a strong voice for taxpayers at the state Capitol.
Douglas Bruce
